Retro, the 2025 Tamil romantic action drama starring Suriya in the lead role, has finally hit theatres. Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. A film which was looked with much expectation, had opened to mixed reviews and polarising reception from the audience. But how has it reflected on the box office collection? Let’s have a look.

Retro box office collection day 1 report is here

For Suriya, Retro is an important film, given it is the next film for the actor after the failure of Kanguva. So naturally, all eyes were set on the film with extra expectations because it marks the first time Suriya is collaborating with Petta filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.

The film was released in theatres on May 1. As per the Sacnilk report, Retro has collected Rs 19.25 crore at the box office in India, with its releases in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Even if the film is off to a decent start, it is crucial that the Suriya-starrer capitalize on the long weekend to make it a successful venture. It is to be noted that day one collections of Retro are still falling short of Kanguva’s first day, which had made Rs 22 crore.

Retro stars Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nasser, Karunakaran, and others. The film revolves around an adopted son of a gangster, who is trying to leave his violent ways to live a life with his lover, only to be pulled back into the world of action.

The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix, which will announce the release date later after the theatrical run. However, in the meantime, there is a collection of Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj films that you can stream on OTTplay Premium.

The director’s previous titles like Pizza, Petta and Mercury are available for streaming. On the other hand, Suriya, who has done versatile roles, has his films like Singam, Vaaranam Aayiram, Pithamagan, Ayan and more.
