Duniya Vijay, who has reverted to his pre-Duniya days name Vijay Kumar since turning director with Salaga , announced his second Telugu outing. The actor-filmmaker, who has been busy with his own directorial City Lights, as well as a film with Gentleman-maker and Kaatera writer J adesha K Hampi, Landlord, will be seen in filmmaker Puri Jagannadh’s untitled next that has Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, making it a Vijay vs Vijay outing.

Puri Jagannadh's return to Kannada cinema after 2017's Rogue
Shooting for the film, which also has Tabu and Radhika Apte on board, is expected to begin in June 2025. No other details about the as-yet-untitled film are available currently, with Telugu media speculating that the working title of the film is Beggar. It is also said that it will be a pan-India project, so there will be a Kannada version too, marking Puri’s return to Sandalwood after 2017’s Rogue, starring Ishan CV.
A one-time popular and successful Telugu filmmaker, Puri Jagannadh’s first Kannada film was Yuvaraja with Shivarajkumar, a collaboration that then led him to direct the debut vehicle of the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, Appu. Puri did another film with Puneeth, called Veera Kannadiga, after which he stayed away from Sandalwood for more than a decade, before returning to launch Ishan, in Rogue, which brought Mannara Chopra and Angela Krislinzski to Kannada cinema.

Vijay, meanwhile, was last seen in 2024’s Bheema, which was his second directorial and was yet again his interpretation of Bengaluru’s underworld, with a strong message against the use of drugs. The actor also had a cameo in Dhananjaya’s Kotee. In Landlord, which is said to be a period film about the struggle for land and existence, Vijay will be pitted against Raj B Shetty. The film’s initial poster and subject had netizens say that it has a strong Kaatera hangover, but the makers have said that both films are vastly different.
