Fall in love all over again with timeless romances like Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Dil Hai Tumhaara, and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon—now streaming on OTTplay Premium.

The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler was the title of the session, which brought together three of the biggest stars in Bollywood. These actors have accomplished legendary careers without ever having worked in the film industry. They discussed their challenges, achievements, and the changing face of Indian cinema.

Shah Rukh Khan on the emotional weight of failure

SRK (watch his debut film Deewana), who is famously forthright, opened up about the emotional toll that box- office failure takes on him. "Whenever I fail, I always feel the failure twice as much because I never do it personally and think, ‘Oh, my film flopped or my work was ruined.’ I feel that I have let down lots of people because I know in 35 years that a lot of people came to watch my movies with a lot of love in their hearts. So whenever I make a bad film, I take it very personally," he admitted.

The skirt story

When asked if he had ever thought about quitting the industry, Khan remembered a single, unusual occasion. "Some years back, Karan Johar came to my house with a script which required me to be wearing a skirt throughout the film. It was one of those stories from the olden times when men wore skirts, and that is the only time I wanted to step back," which made the crowd chuckle.

In his own fashion, Johar justified the artistic decision. He clarified that the character's skirt was necessary because of the way it was written. In response, Khan playfully said, "Tu khud skirt pehenkar khud acting karna."

Deepika Padukone on breaking barriers

Padukone (watch Piku) also shared personal reflections, highlighting the difficulties and triumphs of breaking into a field where insiders have always held sway. The panel discussed how the two actors, who had no prior experience in the film industry, have gone on to become highly paid celebrities and ambassadors for Indian cinema around the world.

The WAVES 2025 Summit, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened earlier in the day, is planned to be a significant venue for encouraging creativity, discussion, and teamwork in the entertainment and media industry.
