A little more than a year after it released in theatres, Kerebete, a film that highlighted the popular fishing sport of the region, is finally on OTT. Directed by Rajguru and starring Gowrishankar in the lead, Kerebete dropped on Amazon Prime Video on May 1, 2025, but on the store only for a rental amount of Rs 99 only. After purchase, the film will be available to the user for 30 days, with only 48 hours to finish it once started. The film has Kannada audio only with English substitles, with a run-tine of 2 hours and 29 minutes only.

Kerebete is all about fighting oppression
A suspense thriller, Kerebete also blends a love story with elements of casteism. The film follows Naga (Gowrishankar), a troublemaker who often finds himself behind bars for smuggling wood. Naga’s problems, though, are not only about smuggling; he and his mother are also in the midst of a bitter fight over ancestral property on his father’s side, which gets ugly because the mother hails from an oppressed caste.
Amid all of this, Naga falls in love with Meena (Bindu Shivaram), but her parents do not take kindly to their budding romance. When Meena then goes missing, and returns months later, with no sign of Naga, questions arise about what happened to her.
Kerebete was screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa and at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, before finally making its way to OTT. The theatrical release had mixed response, with some hailing the story that captures the traditions of the Malnad region, and others not satisfied with the final pay off. The film has music by Seetharam Benoy fame Gagan Baderiya

Also starring Gopalkrishna Deshpande (Toby, Shakhahaari , Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana ), Harini Sreekanth, Sampath Maitreya, Vardhan Thirthahalli, Shekar Kadimane, Raghu Raghunanda, Kerebete, like Indrajit Lankesh’s Gowri and Hariprriya’s Thayi Kasthur Gandhi, will remain on the store and will not become available to subscribers free of cost at a later date.
