Indian adaptation of the Israeli series Magpie

Magpie is a highly regarded Israeli series, and KanKhajura is a riveting Hindi adaptation that updates the story with an Indian sensibility, adding atmospheric storytelling, genuine emotions, and a unique perspective. The teaser just gives viewers a small taste of the terrifying world they're going to encounter, where the past is always lurking around every corner and where recollection is more of a hindrance than an ally.

Central to KanKhajura is the troubled bond between two brothers who have grown apart but are now forced to face their common, devastating history. They are drawn into a psychological labyrinth that is both unsettling and engrossing as they uncover long-buried secrets, causing the boundary between memory and reality to blur.

Roshan Mathew on the emotional depth of his character

One of the brothers, Ashu, played by Roshan Mathew (watch Moothon), discusses the show's emotional terrain. The actor said in a statement that he was drawn to KanKhajura because of the profound emotional impact and the tranquillity that lies beneath the mayhem. Despite his character's seeming fragility at times, Ashu is a multifaceted figure who harbours a calm storm deep inside. An enchanting and eerie tale unfolds and it is the characters' reactions to the show's many broken relationships that provide the most entertainment.

KanKhajura has been produced by Ajay Rai and directed by Chandan Arora. Veteran actor Usha Nadkarni is joined by Mohit Raina, Sarah Jane Dias, Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Trinetra Haldar, and Heeba Shah in this excellent ensemble series.

Creative team

Produced in India by Donna and Shula Productions, the adaptation is based on the original work of Magpie by Yes Studios (Adam Bizanski, Omri Shenhar, and Dana Eden). A riveting new entry to the Indian thriller genre, KanKhajura will likely centre on themes of emotional reckoning, treachery, and the precarious nature of survival.

Starting May 30, KanKhajura will be available exclusively on Sony LIV for streaming.
