Even as April releases of Thudarum and Alappuzha Gymkhana continue to make waves at cinemas, Malayalam cinema is gearing up to welcome another exciting bunch of films to theatres in May 2025. Mathew Thomas kicks off the May releases with his Lovely, while Rekhachithram star Asif Ali will be back with Sarkeet and Tovino Thomas will be leading the charge in Narivetta. Suraj Venjaramoodu's Padakkalam and Dileep's Prince and Family are also in contention for the May 2025 race. Lovely

Release date: May 2, 2025

A day after his latest film Bromance hits the OTT space, Mathew Thomas brings in Lovely, touted to be a fantasy comedy drama. The recently released trailer shows Mathew Thomas as Bony, a youth who aspires to migrate to Canada. But in a twist of fate, he finds himself behind bars, where he comes across a 'talking fly'. Sarkeet

Release date: May 8, 2025

After the stellar success of Rekhachithram, Asif Ali returns to the big screens with Sarkeet, which is written and directed by Thamar KV. Much like Thamar’s directorial debut, 1001 Nunakal, Sarkeet is also set in the Gulf. The trailer shows Asif Ali’s character trying to build a life in the Gulf. Another key character is a hyperactive child, and the film revolves around their bond. Given the stellar director-actor combination, Sarkeet is a film you should watch out for in theatres in May.

Padakkalam

Release date: May 8, 2025

Suraj Venjaramoodu joined hands with Sharafudheen for this comedy-drama, which is helmed by debutant Manu Swaraj. Sandeep Pradeep and Niranjana Anoop are also part of the film. The trailer showed a bunch of a youngsters at a college campus. The trailer hints that Padakkalam will be a delightful mix of elements of humour and myth.

Prince and Family

Release date: May 9, 2025

Dileep, known for his roles in Meesa Madhavan and CID Mossa, stars in the lead role in Prince and Family. Siddique, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Bindhu Panicker are also part of this film, directed by Binto Stephen. The film revolves around a man named Prince, who runs a bridal boutique in Kerala.

Narivetta

Release date: May 16, 2025

Tovino Thomas headlines Narivetta as a cop. The film follows the events as the police try to evict tribal people from their land, who in turn resist the move. The film, touted to be a political thriller, is directed by Anuraj Manohar who had previously helmed Ishq. Narivetta is said to be inspired by real events and the gripping trailer promises that a hard-hitting movie is on the cards. 

Written and directed by God

Release date: May 16, 2025

Sunny Wayne and Saiju Kurup play the lead roles in Written & Directed by God along with Aparna Das. The upcoming Malayalam film is helmed by debutant Febi George and will have music by Shaan Rahman. Jomon John, Linto Devasia, and Roshan Mathew have penned the film.
