On May Day, there are several big-ticket releases across languages, but not in Kannada, and only 1 that will have a dubbed version in theatres. On May 1, Suriya’s Retro, Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, Asif Ali’s Abhyanthara Kuttavaali and Nani’s HIT 3 are releasing, which is why there’s no major Kannada film joining the list. On OTT, also, there aren’t many officially announced titles heading to streaming, but there are reports that Vikky Varun’s directorial debut from 2024 will premiere this week.

Here’s a look at the films – Kannada original and dubbed – hitting theatres and OTT in the week of April 28 to May 4

HIT 3

The third instalment in the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT) universe by director Sailesh Kolanu, starring Natural Star Nani (of Eega fame) in the lead, will release this week, including with a Kannada dubbed version, what with the actor determined to have a 5-language outing for all of his films. Nani is paired with KGF and Cobra fame Srinidhi Shetty in the film. The film has been censored A for the level of violence, although the team claims that it is not all about bloodshed and gore.

Puppy

Written and directed by Ayush Malli, Puppy tells the story of a young boy from poor family in Bengaluru, who find a lost puppy belonging to a wealthy family, with a finder’s fee of Rs 10,000. As the bond between the boy and the puppy deepens, will he return the little dog to its owner or will he keep him? The film stars Jagadeesh K, Aditya G, Durgappa Kambli and Renuka Desai, among others.

Kalapatthar

Kenda Sampige actor Vikky Va run’s directorial debut, which has him playing the lead character Shankara, A BSF soldier relegated to cooking duties, who finds himself on the frontline after successfully thwarting an infiltration attempt on his barracks. As a mark of respect for his act of bravery, Vikky is honoured with a life-size statue in his village. But then, he begins to have strange experiences. The film pairs Vikky with Dhanya Ramkumar.
